Nurturance – The Key to Brain Development

These resources are now owned and operated by Child Health BC who is making them freely available to parents, caregivers, families and anyone supporting healthy child development in the early years.

Every Child needs a Nurturing Adult in their Life

Optimal brain development can only occur when a child is cared for and feels safe. This is especially important to understand for lower socioeconomic households where poverty and stress often lead to a chaotic quest for survival that doesn’t leave time nurturing. The child’s learning will suffer. In this situation, it’s hard for anyone to focus, yet attention and focus are key skills that children need to acquire for learning to take place.

Tenderness and Love can Help Children Thrive

Any nurturing adult, not just the parents, can help provide the caring support that is required.
