Dr. Dan Siegel is well known as an author, speaker and educator. He is a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the UCLA School of Medicine, the co-founder of the “Mindful Awareness Research Center” at UCLA and the Executive Director of the Mindsight Institute that he founded.
The Mindsight Institute provides “a scientifically grounded, integrated view of human development to promote the growth of healthy minds”.

Dr. Siegel earned his medical degree at Harvard University and then completed his postgraduate medical education at UCLA with training in pediatrics and child, adolescent and adult psychiatry. At UCLA he also served as a National Institute of Mental Health Research Fellow and studied family interactions. The emphasis was on “how attachment experiences influence emotions, behavior, autobiographical memory and narrative”.
As an author Dr. Siegel’s publications for professional and the public have been translated into over 40 languages.
In his interviews and videos with KidCareCanada Dr. Siegel speaks about the impact of unresolved trauma, and how it can interfere with “being present”. He urges parents to seek help if they are experiencing feelings of unworthiness, shame or incompetence. Help is available and can positively change the relationship between a parent and a child.
