KidCareCanada Society and Vancouver Native Health Society launched the DVD “Emotional Safety” at Sheway, in Vancouver’s Downtown East Side on October 26, 2011. Please view the 3 minute promo.
Compelling research points to the importance of early attachment and nurture for the life-long well-being of a child. The Emotional Safety DVD bridges the gap between research and the practice so that all new parents can be informed about what their baby really needs, and how they can provide it.
Vancouver Native Health Society and KidCareCanada Society partnered on the project “Many Voices, One Song”. It led to funding from Social Accountability and Community Engagement, UBC, Faculty of Medicine.
Vancouver Native Health Society Executive Director, Mr. Lou Demarais, and Program Manager, Mr. Horacio Valle Torres, hosted the event. Estelle Paget, Executive Director, KidCareCanada Society, and director of the DVD, “Emotional Safety”, screened the DVD to approximately 50 front-line workers, including health care providers, therapists and home visitors. Claire Geller, who also works in the Downtown East Side, helped distribute and gather formal written feedback forms. The feedback clearly showed that this video will be of utmost value to families served by Vancouver Native Health – and all new parents.
A community launch of the video will take place November 23, 2011 at the Phil Bouvier Centre.
