The Opportunity of Community

The Opportunity of Community

Dr. Siegel reintroduces the concept “Alloparenting” and explains that a baby's brain is designed to have more than one attachment figure. Families are too isolated in today's modern life, and this isolation results in unhealthy pressure being placed on one individual, usually the mother. Parents cannot be all things to their children; they need to call on older, wiser and stronger people to help raise their child. Dr. Siegel reminds us that we are all part of the human family and that everything we do should be with the health of the larger world in mind. If the planet is to survive we need to learn how to serve and savor the world.
